An online parenting community

Whether it’s your first child or fourth, the one thing that never changes about parenting is the truckload of help and advice that’s dumped on your doorstep by well-meaning friends and relatives. It’s difficult to know exactly who to trust, but since 2005 Netmums has quickly established itself as a valued resource for parents, with over two million members.

Being the UK’s largest parenting website has caused us many sleepless nights of our own, but we’ve always treated them like our own precious new born, using plenty of TLC to help design, develop and maintain the site through any teething problems.

From the very beginning we were central to Netmums’ digital strategy, recognising the importance of UI in a site that is driven by editorial content. By developing a bespoke CMS with a clean and straightforward admin UI, we gave editors greater flexibility and allowed them to update content quickly and easily.

Netmums’ family recipes section is one of the most popular parts of the site, with 1.5 million page views per month. It contains almost 1,000 recipes that aren’t just great for babies to plaster over their faces and your walls, but perfect for eating on a budget, on a diet, or even on a weekend away camping. We helped Netmums create a filter to help people to search by recipe type, ingredient, methods and meals. We even included a downloadable meal planner.

Netmums Chat is an online forum where Mums can ask for advice, share their stories and vent their frustrations about whatever’s on their minds. The forum experiences incredibly high traffic, so we integrated the site with vBulletin to allow for a seamless transition between the main site and the forum.

We also launched an app for iOS and Android which was featured on the Guardian website top 30 apps of the week.

Netmums & Lego

A few bricks of the trade

Netmums partnered with a variety of household names in 2015 to create bespoke, impactful digital campaigns. One of these partnerships, a collaboration between Netmums and Lego Juniors, saw anything create an online ‘social hub’ that acted as a gallery for user-generated Lego content from Twitter, Facebook and Instagram - all shared via the hashtag #proudmoments.

The hub allowed budding young Lego builders to go online and find inspirational quotes, memes and users posts, all integrated seamlessly with LEGO product messaging.

Netmums & Netflix

Lights, camera, action

There are so many movies on Netflix, it’s difficult to know what to watch on those rainy Sunday afternoons. That’s why we helped Netmums create the ‘Watch with Netmums Club’ in partnership with Netflix, providing film recommendations for kids and adults, as well as quizzes and games.

From initial concepts through to the final design and development of the site, we made sure families found the right films and kept everyone entertained.
